How to Train Kosovo's Economic Actors in the Circular Economy?

Context

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) regularly works around the world to help address challenges related to economic development, sustainability, and education.

It notably operates in Kosovo, which has strong development potential and where integrating environmental issues into its development is essential.

Needs

GIZ wanted to build the skills of economic actors in the education, media, government, and private sectors in Kosovo on the topic of the circular economy. It also wanted to equip these actors so that, over time, they could deliver circular economy workshops to other actors themselves.

Approach

To meet GIZ's needs and train various economic actors in Kosovo, 40 hours of training were offered to the organization.

This training aimed to combine theory and practice, so participants could grasp and master this new paradigm, notably the circular economy applied to waste management.

Process

The 40 hours of training were split as follows:

• 25 hours of online theoretical training on the circular economy and on facilitating interactive workshops, through live videos and interactive exercises using the Value Chain Canvas, Partner Map, and Circular Canvas tools. All the content and exercises were adapted to the Kosovo context and to the participants (local authorities, education, private sector, and media/general public).
• Participants then had the opportunity to complete 15 hours of in-person practical training on creating, facilitating, and leading workshops.

Results

8 people were certified by Circulab as being able and qualified to create, lead, and facilitate circular economy workshops in Kosovo.

The circular economy training for teachers was one of the best training courses I've ever taken. I can't wait to share all the knowledge I gained through this training to help drive change toward circularity.
